Jim C’s 1970 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

Jim C’s 1970 Chevelle

Jim was looking to relive his younger years when he used to drag race and build cars with his friends. Now that he is much older, he decided to start looking for a Chevelle SS. He would find it on Craigslist. The 1970 Chevelle is still its original forest green color with a big block 454 with all the right options.

The car looked good 10 feet away (10-footer) but there were a few things he had to do to make it a driver. After deciding to pull the motor and just do some freshening up, it turned into a complete frame on restoration. Some of the restoration included a new BB High perf engine and the TH 400 was rebuilt as well as the 12 Bolt rear including axles, and Posi unit. The list of restoration work on drive train, body, and paint is a long story. Jim managed to accomplish it all on his own! Along with the mechanical work and painting, he also stripped down the body to bare metal. All panels were replaced with metal (all Bondo was removed). The 1970 Chevelle had 3 coats of paint prior to stripping, which is what makes Jim think that’s what preserved it so well. The new paint is the original code 48 Forrest Green with white stripes.

Jim wanted the ‘70 Super Sport to appear stock on the exterior and interior, while having a modern performance.

The only thing left that Jim would like to do would be replacing all the original glass.

"SS396.com is a great source for Chevelle enthusiasts and they had the parts I needed for the build. The staff was very helpful."

-Jim C.
