Mark Z’s 1969 Chevelle SS396 L78

Built From The Ground Up

Mark Z’s 1969 Chevelle SS396 L78

Mark’s 1969 Chevelle SS396 L78 Convertible 4 Speed bench is painted Azure Turquoise with a Black Side Stripe, Black Interior, and Black Cloth Convertible Top. Built April 1969 in Kansas, it came with a 1969 396 L78 engine.

No paperwork exists, so it’s assumed it is not numbers matching. Mark took a professional painted body and focused his improvements on all of the mechanicals.

The suspension is a Stage 2 Hotchkiss Kit with 4 wheel disc brakes and stainless steel lines. The Muncie 21 trans with Hurst linkage and shifter. The interior is restored stock SS with a TMI Sport Bench upgrade. Dynamat floor with ACC carpets. All new wiring, bulbs, switches, sending units. Upgraded steering box and IDIDIT Tilt steering wheel topped with a Rosewood steering wheel – this car drives straight and turns flat!

The engine has been upgraded with a Flo Cooler WP, High Output Alternator, DUI HEI, and a Be Cool OEM radiator. New Stainless Steel Fuel Tank with Holley Pump. The 12 Bolt Rear has been upgraded with forged axles and 4:10 Gears. The car was built as a quick streetcar, the L78 engine with M21 close-ratio and 4:10 gears make for a lot of fun cruising. Mark has purchased many parts from Ground Up SS396, they were a great help! To Mark it is time to move on to another project, the 1969 Chevelle is currently for sale.
