Jesse K’s 1968 Chevelle SS396

Built From The Ground Up

Jesse K’s 1968 Chevelle SS396

This 1968 Chevelle was restored by Jesse K and his father over the course of 2010-2015. Jesse found the shell rotting in a field in Central Square, NY shortly after graduating high school in 2009.

It was in extremely rough shape with almost nothing left of the shell, but it is a genuine SS and they are becoming rarer by the day, so the father & son duo decided to save it together.

Jesse sold his dirt kart and borrowed from his savings in order to purchase the car, a second frame, and a seized 396 big block to get the ball rolling on this restoration. They would spend the next five years performing a total frame off restoration in a friend’s barn, doing all of the work themselves.

Each summer, the pair traveled to the Syracuse Nationals to visit Ground Up’s stand at the show. One of his favorite memories was buying various body panels and carrying them through the crowd.

What makes it special is that my dad and I restored it together. We both love old muscle cars and being able to do this together makes the 1968 Chevelle priceless to me. It’ll be something I get to pass down to my family and I’m very fortunate to have had the opportunity to do this with my dad.

Jesse

While the restoration has been finished since 2015, there is always more left on the table for improvements. This year they plan to install a few upgrades such as a new clutch, high torque starter motor, a ’68 roller tachometer, and a power steering conversion.
