Robert A’s 1976 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

Robert A’s 1976 Chevelle

Robert’s 1976 Chevelle Malibu is done up in period correct style accurate to when it was sold brand new. He wanted the build to emphasis the types of parts that were available at the time he would have been driving the Chevelle.

Robert had answered an ad for a motor hoist 15 years ago and he got more than he bargained for with this 1976 Chevelle Malibu. He asked the older gentleman if the car was also for sale out of curiosity and sure enough he was given a number of $1500. Robert told the man he would be right back, and so he was the proud new owner of this 1976 Chevelle a few short minutes later.

It is currently equipped with a 355 small block with 9:1 compression, though he does have intentions to swap in a 400 small block as that was the best available at the time. He would also like to do the same with the existing TH350 transmission, converting to a TH700R4 for the overdrive capability. He is also looking to swap out to a 3.73 gear ratio rear end over the current 10 bolt 3.42 ratio it runs now.

Some of the modifications Robert already has in place include an original GM AM/FM pushbutton radio, Laguna side louvers and swivel bucket seats. Rear disc brakes and traction bars have been installed for added safety as well.

Perhaps the most unique thing on this 1976 Chevelle are the working hood louvers that he custom made from a set of 1979 Camaro fender louvers, which were cut and applied by Robert himself.

“You won’t see another 76 Chevelle like this! Not a garage princess!”

This 1976 Chevelle wears the original Dark Red paint with Black Stripes on the exterior. When this car was brand new, Robert was only 13 years ago in 1976. It is special to him because it was also the first year that he worked a 40 hour a week summer job for some personal independence. He says it was the best year of his life and he will always remember it.

"Even though my order was delayed at the vendor SS396.com kept me informed of they're actions on my behalf to resolve the issue and got me the product I ordered. Some places will leave you hanging and frustrated. Not SS396! Thank you!"
