James K’s 1966 Chevelle

Built From The Ground Up

James K’s 1966 Chevelle

James bought the 1966 Chevelle convertible from a friend. His buddy had found it as a drag car with no interior, one seat, a roll bar, drag slicks, and a drag rear. Plus, it had no motor and no transmission when he bought it!

In 1982, James bought it from his friend and they began the restoration together. The biggest issue was finding a backseat for the convertible. James finally found one and had it all redone. He also got it a new top and had the body painted. It’s been in his life now since 1982. It’s got a 383 Stroker, five speed transmission, and aluminum slots. Believe it or not, the convertible also has a 3.08 rear end. He drives it as much as he can when time allows. He’s had a lot of good times in the ‘66 Chevelle.

The unique thing about James’ car is that it’s actually a daily driver. It can use regular pump gas, and it’s just a good car to drive. James wouldn’t hesitate to jump in it and drive it across the country!

He’s probably going to have to put a new top on it sometime in the future and get a new header. Other than that, he just plans to continue to keep it running and to have a good time with it.

"I’ve done a fair amount of shopping with ss396.com. I found them through an internet search. Actually, the catalog is pretty easy to use too. Their parts are quality and they got awesome apparel."

-James K.
