Mark located this 1968 Chevelle back in 2017 through a friend in Rochester, WA. The previous owner had neglected it for ages and he just had to save it. A price was agreed upon and he left with the 1968 Chevelle back toward his home in Oregon.

While it is still an ongoing project, Mark’s brought the 1968 Chevelle Malibu hardtop back to life enough for it to be a running and driving project car at least. It started life as an original 307 small block car paired with a Powerglide automatic and unsurprisingly 4 wheel drum brakes.

The replacement interior has yet to be installed, but the original interior is serviceable. He intends to keep the original bench seat rather than swap over to buckets.

“I have been buying interior pieces from ss396 waiting til I have them all before I install.”

He started this restoration by replacing the rotten tires and exhaust, as the car had been sitting for a number of years these items seemed like as good a place to start as anywhere else. It now wears staggered American Racing Torque Thrust 2s and a dual exhaust system with turbo mufflers.

Next up on the agenda were new shocks, brake components, ignition points, wheel bearings, and a general tune up. This 1968 Chevelle Malibu was beginning to get its groove back. He plans on going a few steps further and upgrading to front disc brakes once he gets the new larger displacement small block engine installed.

Mark is doing this for himself, so he has final say on what ultimately goes into the build. For example, he is keeping the Powerglide for the time being and is undecided to which transmission to pair to the engine when the time comes.
