Doug B’s 1966 Chevelle SS396

Built From The Ground Up

Doug B’s 1966 Chevelle SS396

This 1966 Chevelle sat under a pecan tree for about 10 years in Doug’s friend’s back yard. Doug had been pestering his friend to sell it for ages, but since it was a high school graduation present it was an uphill battle. Finally one day he relented.

Once the 1966 Chevelle was in Doug’s possession, he stripped the entire car down to the frame, which he proceeded to powder coat and replace all of the worn bushings. Next on the agenda were a full set of UMI Suspension tubular control arms and coilovers.

The rear end was brought back to the correct 12 bolt posi unit and the Chevelle was converted to 4 wheel disc brakes to up the stopping power. It has the numbers matching 396 block, which was bored .60 over and paired to a 700R4 transmission.

The body itself was given a full rotisserie restoration with much of the sheetmetal replaced due to sitting under that tree for a decade. Doug replaced both quarter panels, the full trunk pan, and both front fenders. To prevent something like this happening again, he applied Lizard Skin to the entire undercarriage of the Chevelle.

The rest of the body was then powder blasted and painted back to the original Marina Blue paint code. The interior was then restored to brand new with the fresh factory Ivory White colorway.

Doug’s mostly owned 1st generation Camaros in the past, but he wanted a larger ride he could cruise around with his friends in. As soon as this car is complete, he will be building up another one. But first, this Chevelle’s going on a road tour.
