My cowl top was rotted and there is so much detail in this area it would have been impossible to fabricate. I was surprised at how complex this whole panel is. I considered briefly using the whole panel , but with my rust issue being only on the top, it seemed senseless to remove a structural piece for only cosmetic reasons. I decided to separate the top panel and use it alone. I removed all the spot welds and fitted the new top. It was identical to the factory piece and could not have fit better if GM had made it.
