1978 Malibu Parts and Restoration Specifications
In 1978, the Malibu name badge replaced the Chevelle name for good. In addition to the nameplate change, the new Malibu model was smaller in many senses, having been shortened by over a foot and cut down by several hundred pounds. Despite being noticeably smaller, the revised A-body featured more cargo room in both the passenger compartment and truck than previous models.
While the coupe was the more sporty option, the 4-door sedan came out in a notchback configuration rather than a traditional hatchback. Because cost was a concern at the time, the rear windows on the sedan were fixed, however, while the wagon received small vent windows on its rear doors.
Factory optional air conditioning was thought to have been extremely popular in sedan and wagon models because of the lack of ventilation.
